I opened up my dryer to see that it had a broken belt. I called this place and they were able to come the next day, so I went with them. When the tech got here he told me that the belt was broken and the pulley needed replaced and that it would be 291 dollars. (Minus the service charge of coming over). I paid the service charge of 69 dollars (they take your credit card over phone before they will come out) and sent the tech on his way, because it felt like he was trying to take advantage of me. That's a lot of money for a basic dryer repair.
I just bought the six dollar belt online and took off the front of my dryer--(thanks YouTube! Was actually easy!) The pulley looks fine inside--I think the tech just wanted to upgrade it for a pricier job, and it probably does make the belts last longer. I'm just going to replace the belt.
It would be a 20 minute fix if I had the part in hand, I just wanted to pay for the convenience of having someone else do it and I ended up paying for an expensive life lesson instead--fix it yourself!
